Based in North Yorkshire, Block Culture is run by Alex and James. Not quite sure who's Block and who's Culture, but putting that crucial detail aside for a moment, they both love playing around with letters to create striking graphic designs. Alex also is a graphic designer, which helps!
'Block' refers to the woodblock letter set that they use to create all of their graphics. 'Culture' is a nod to couple of things, one being a way of life (these fellas can't help but see letters in everything!) and the other being the subject matter of the designs themselves - cycling!
So how do they go about creating a Block Culture print?
Simply put, they take really high resolution scans of woodblock letter prints and then digitally work away at reimagining the things they love - a bike, a slice of Battenberg you get the gist - by crafting letters into shapes.
