Your cycling jacket is a good investment as it will allow you to get out there and enjoy your ride regardless of the weather conditions be it torrential rain, drizzle, freezing cold or blowing a gale!
- Water proof cycling jackets. If you're going to be out all day in seriously wet weather you will need greater protection than if there is just the suggestion of a few downpours. Both types of wet conditions do require waterproof jackets but the former weather condition will need more serious protection (read the label to check if it is waterproof, rather than just water resistant). While the later (intermittent showers) will require something lighter, portable and easier to stuff in your rear jersey pocket
- Wind / Weather Resistant cycling jackets. Unless you live in the South Pennines (its beautiful but by eck it rains a lot here!) a windproof jacket with some water resistant properties will more often than not be sufficient to allow you to get out there and enjoy your ride. These jackets will be more breathable than full waterproof jacket. However, they will still most likely have some light rain protection.
- High vis options - this may be a good option for commuters and those cycling on busy roads (it is contentious though and there are arguments for and against - check out interesting debate:-
