Victor & Liberty – The First Year

It’s our anniversary – a year since Victor & Liberty launched! We thought we’d offer you a virtual slice of cake and a glass of something, and take you with us on a little trip back over the last twelve months. But first, we’ll introduce ourselves properly. We’re Lucy and Paul, passionate cyclists and design fans. Lucy’s the driving force behind Victor & Liberty; she loves tearing up (and down) the local hills around Hebden Bridge in the beautiful South Pennines. Paul’s enjoys nothing more than a fierce climb and commutes daily by bike along the valley.

Keen audaxers and sportivists, we were tired of having only pro kit and team replicas to choose from. We wanted to offer men and women kit that looked great and worked brilliantly. Now, our dream of an online shop showcasing stylish cycling clothing and accessories has come true, here in Hebden Bridge. For us, Victor & Liberty captures the freedom of the open road, the thrill of conquering an epic climb, with a pinch of French cycling romance and a splash of British tradition thrown in.

Our first year’s been quite a ride! We’ve honed our range as we’ve got to know you, our customers. You love great design, where attention to detail and quality of manufacture are as important as stylish looks, so growing British companies like Vulpine and Morvélo sit alongside well-established manufacturers such as Carradice, and we also stock selected young brands from outside Britain like Café du Cycliste, Creux, Walz and Donkey Label. Of course, cyclists have excellent taste off the bike, too, so we’ve started offering beautiful cycling-themed artwork from Anthony Oram, Rebecca Kaye, Block Culture and Artist on a Bike, and our range has recently expanded into homewares from Stitch-Mi-Lane and Rouleur.

What’s next? We’re very excited about our own Victor & Liberty-print saddlebag, which will be designed and made exclusively by Carradice, just up the road from us in Nelson, Lancashire. We’re looking forward to tackling the Tour of Flanders sportive in 2015, and continuing to support local events like Up The Buttress. We’re also planning a few surprise events for next year (including hill climbs), so watch this space!

We love chatting with customers – on the phone, over email and in person at events such as London Bike Show, L’Eroica and SpinLdn – and we’re over the moon that so many of our first-timers have come back for more. We’re always seeking out new and exciting brands, so drop us a line, pick up the phone, or come and see us at a show; we’d love to hear what you want from Victor & Liberty, and have your help in growing over the next year, too. Cheers!
